I’m currently working at two speeds:

1) See an opportunity and act on it.

2) See an opportunity and plan it. Research it. Consult on it. Amass a jumble of thoughts. Discard some. Sharpen the focus. Document the challenges, the approaches and the solutions.

As someone driven by the satisfaction of less items in my Inbox, less things on my to do list, speed 1 is so much more satisfying. But I’m enjoying the details of speed 2. The digging in. Respecting bigger things enough to give them more of my time.

Truths from the campfire

Delete Candy Crush. Its a time-wasting distraction.

Social media is very anti-social. Its ok to embrace a community of like-minded people in cyberspace, but not at the expense of the people who are actually in the same room with you.

Use Facebook & Twitter for sharing life moments with and engaging people, not for living every moment alongside.

Your phone has the ability to turn the data connection off. Use it.

Fresh air is underrated. Go outside more.

Campfires are hypnotic, calming & warming.

BE WHERE YOU ARE.

Live your life with purpose & a plan, but roll with the punches too.

Stop just wishing.

Play with your kids.

Food is fuel.

This topic has been on my heart since before Queenslands recent rain event (Jan 2013) and it just wont leave my thoughts. Now that my attention is not so urgently taken with filling needs, its time to let the topic loose.

Are we really that stupid?

Once upon a time, there were maybe a handful of ways to die: sickness, injury (especially in the workplace, if you think industrial era) and childbirth. But society went and got all advanced and created technology and the Internet and cured illnesses and improved safety and childbirth. And we all lived long lives happily ever after.

My love/hate relationship with Monday

After having dinner, getting the kids to bed & doing the dishes, I forced myself to go back into the office and finish todays bookwork before I wrote this post. I did get it finished too, apart from one bill I have to yell at Sensis about. My aim is to have the books up-to-date each Monday and I didnt want to start Tuesday with that hanging over me. All I really wanted to do though was write. The term is eating frogs referring to doing what you dont want to do, first, then enjoying your pleasant task afterwards. Frog eaten, commence writing (its 21:41). Oh the life of a Work at Home Mum.
